Policies

These policies cover how Zoologger works, how we handle your data, and what we expect from the people who use it. If something here isn't clear, reach out through the contact page.

Who can use Zoologger

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. There are no exceptions, and we don't offer accounts for younger users with a parent's permission. If we find out an account belongs to someone under 16, we remove it.

You're responsible for keeping your login details safe and for everything that happens under your account.

What we collect and why

We keep it to what the app actually needs. That means the email address and display name you sign up with, a securely hashed version of your password (never the password itself), and the records you choose to enter: your animals, collections, breeding plans, posts, and the photos you upload. Photos are stripped of embedded location and camera metadata before they're stored.

We also log limited technical data (your IP address, browser, and request timing) to keep accounts secure and to stop abuse. We use this information to run the service, protect it, and contact you about your account. We do not sell your personal data.

Cookies

We use a small number of essential cookies to keep you signed in and to protect the site. Those are required for Zoologger to work. We also show ads and use optional cookies for preferences and analytics. Ads are on by default, but you can turn them off at any time from the cookie banner, and paid subscribers don't see ads at all.

Your content

Your records and photos are yours. By posting them, you give us permission to store and display them inside Zoologger so the app can show your collection, your feed, and your lineage trees. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except where we're required to keep something for legal or security reasons.

Only upload content you have the right to share, and don't upload anything illegal, deceptive, or that infringes someone else's work.

Animals, wildlife law, and sales

Zoologger is a record-keeping and community platform, not a marketplace. We don't broker, host, or process the sale, trade, or transport of animals. You can link out to an approved third-party marketplace to handle a sale, and right now the only approved site is MorphMarket. Please don't use Zoologger to arrange sales anywhere else.

Complying with the law is your responsibility. That includes the CITES convention, the U.S. Lacey Act, the Endangered Species Act, and every permit, registration, and restriction that applies where you live and where the animal lives. Protected, endangered, venomous, and otherwise regulated species carry real legal obligations, and nothing on Zoologger changes them.

We remove content and close accounts that break wildlife law or use the platform to get around it.

Acceptable use

Be a decent member of the community. No harassment, hate, spam, impersonation, or scraping. Don't try to break, overload, or probe the platform, and don't use it to distribute malware or to deceive other keepers. We may hide content, suspend accounts, or ban users who don't follow these rules, and you can appeal a moderation decision from your account.

Paid features

Some features may require a subscription. Payments are handled by Stripe, and we never see or store your card number. We tell you the price and renewal terms before you pay, renewals are shown in advance, and you can cancel from your account.

Your privacy rights

You can view and correct most of your information directly in the app. You can also download a copy of your data or delete your account from your settings, or by contacting us, and we'll handle the request within 30 days. If you're in the EU, UK, or California, these rights are backed by law, and you can raise a concern with your local data-protection authority.

Security

We take security seriously. Your connection is encrypted, your password is always stored scrambled and never in plain text, and we limit who can reach your data. No system is perfect, but we respond quickly when something looks wrong. If you find a security issue, please tell us through the contact page.

International use and changes

Zoologger runs on infrastructure in the United States, so using it means your data may be processed there with appropriate safeguards in place. We'll update these policies as the product grows; when we do, we'll change the date below and flag anything significant. Continuing to use Zoologger after an update means you accept it.
